What is Thickness Planer?

Thickness Planer is an important basic carpentry tool that allows you to smooth and thin wood to the desired dimensions. The planer allows you to set one or multiple pieces of wood to the same thickness, which makes furniture assembly faster and easier and helps to achieve a more professional finish on your projects.

How to choose a Thickness Planer?

Before choosing a thickness planer you should carefully consider the size of the projects you want to plane. For most hobbyists a 12" benchtop planer with a planing width of between 310 and 330mm is more than enough. However, if you need more planing capacity we also offer models with a planing width of up to 800mm.

Thickness planer is easy to use

Using a Thickness Planer is simple and easy. The feed rollers of the table pull the piece of wood to be planed through a tunnel which has blades on top of the roof that removes 0-3 mm of material in single pass depending on the settings. In todays market many thickness planers have a separate planing depth scale, which allows you to adjust the planing depth before you start planing.

Tips for using a Thickness Planer:

Before using a thickness planer you should remember at least these following 3 things:

1. Always plane parallel to the grain of the wood, which prevents cracks from forming on the surface.

2. Don't plane with dull blades as they can ruin the wood surface and slow down your workflow.

3. Place the planer on as flat a surface as possible to keep it stable.
